Ten Americans were killed among 12 dead when a single-enginr turboprop Cessna tour airplane crashed in mountainous region near Punta Islita at 18:30 local time. Both Costa Rican pilots died in the crash. No survivors were found. After departing from Punta Islita Airport, the airplane, operated by local carrier Nature Air, was forced to change course due to strong winds. The same airplane’s earlier arrival to Punta Islita was also delayed due to the same reason. The wreckage was scattered across a forest. The Costa Rican president tweeted his condolences to the families of the victims. One of the pilots was the cousin of the ex-president of the Central American nation, Laura Chinchilla, as she stated on her Twitter account.
